Hill Country Youth Alliance respectfully requests $50,000 from the Meadows Foundation to expand our after-school mentorship program serving 200+ at-risk youth in Travis County.

Over the past five years, our organization has demonstrated measurable impact in improving academic outcomes and reducing juvenile involvement for participating youth. With this funding, we will add two dedicated mentors and extend programming to three additional Title I schools in East Austin, directly addressing the Foundation's priority of strengthening community-based youth development.

In Travis County, 1 in 4 youth from low-income households lack access to structured after-school programming (Texas Education Agency, 2024). Without safe, supervised environments, these students face disproportionately high rates of academic disengagement and involvement in the juvenile justice system.

Our target ZIP codes (78702, 78721, 78741) show a 34% high school dropout rate among students who lack after-school support, compared to 12% among peers with access to mentorship programs. The economic cost of each dropout to the state exceeds $260,000 over their lifetime, making prevention both a moral and fiscal imperative.

The Bridges to Tomorrow mentorship program pairs trained adult mentors with at-risk youth ages 12-17 for twice-weekly, 90-minute structured sessions at partner school sites. Each cohort of 25 students receives individualized academic coaching, career exploration workshops, and social-emotional learning activities aligned with CASEL framework competencies.

Program activities include homework assistance and tutoring (40% of session time), project-based learning tied to community issues (30%), and group mentoring circles focused on conflict resolution, goal-setting, and leadership development (30%). All mentors complete 40 hours of initial training and participate in monthly supervision with licensed clinical staff.
