How GrantDrop Works Responsibly

We believe grant tools should be transparent about what they do, how they work, and where they fall short. Here's our commitment to responsible technology.

1. How We Source Grant Data

Our grant database is built from publicly available sources:

  • Grants.gov / Simpler.Grants.gov — Federal grant opportunities via the official government API
  • IRS 990 records — Foundation giving patterns, grant amounts, and recipient data from public tax filings
  • Public grant databases — Texas-specific foundation directories and publicly listed funding opportunities

Important: Public data can be stale or incomplete. Grant deadlines, amounts, and eligibility may have changed since our last update. Always verify details directly with the funding organization before applying.

2. How Matching Works

Every match is scored across five transparent dimensions:

  • Geography — Does the grant fund organizations in your area?
  • Budget fit — Is your organization's size appropriate for this grant's typical award range?
  • NTEE category — Does your nonprofit's classification align with the grant's focus areas?
  • Mission alignment — How well does the grant's purpose match your stated mission?
  • Deadline feasibility — Is there enough time to prepare a quality application?

Matching uses a combination of rule-based scoring (geography, budget, category, deadline) and AI analysis for deeper mission-fit assessment. You can see the breakdown for every match — no black box.

3. How AI Is Used

GrantDrop uses Claude by Anthropic to generate draft proposal sections. Here's what that means in practice:

  • Drafts are starting points, not submissions. They are built from your organization's real data (mission, programs, financials from public records) combined with the grant's requirements.
  • AI can make mistakes — including generating plausible-sounding but incorrect claims. All content must be human-reviewed before submission.
  • Draft quality depends on the data available about your organization and the grant. More complete profiles produce better drafts.
  • We use AI for mission-fit analysis in matching, and for generating draft narrative sections. We do not use AI to make eligibility determinations.

Never submit an AI-generated draft without thorough human review. You are responsible for the accuracy and completeness of every application you submit.

4. What We Don't Do

  • We don't submit applications. You are always in control of what gets sent to funders and when.
  • We don't guarantee accuracy of public data. Grant information comes from third-party sources that may be outdated or incomplete.
  • We don't train AI on your data. Your organization's information is used only to generate your matches and drafts. It is not used to train AI models.
  • We don't share your information with other users. Your profile, matches, and drafts are private to your account.

5. Your Privacy & Security

  • No tracking cookies. We don't use third-party advertising or analytics trackers.
  • No ad networks. We will never sell your data or show you ads.
  • Encrypted in transit and at rest. All data is transmitted over HTTPS and stored with encryption.

Sub-processors we use:

  • Anthropic — AI draft generation (Claude)
  • Stripe — Payment processing
  • SendGrid — Transactional email
  • Railway — Application hosting
  • Sentry — Error monitoring
  • Google OAuth — Authentication

6. What We're Building Next

GrantDrop is actively improving. Here's what we're working toward:

  • Organization truth layer — Richer profiles built from multiple verified data sources for more accurate matching
  • Eligibility pre-checks — Automated checks against known funder requirements before you invest time drafting
  • Stronger factual grounding — Better citation of sources within generated drafts so you can verify claims faster
