How to Apply The mission of the Commonwealth Fund is to promote a high-performing health care system that achieves better access, improved quality, and greater efficiency, particularly for society's most vulnerable, including low-income people, the uninsured, and people of color. The Fund carries out this mandate by supporting independent research on health care issues and making grants to improve health care practice and policy. In its more than 100 years, the Fund has worked by: * Demonstrating pioneering approaches and evaluating their results * Convening experts across backgrounds and disciplines * Publishing the results of our research and disseminating evidence Applicants are requested to provide a letter of inquiry through the online application portal on the Fund's website.
Restrictions To be eligible for a grant, organizations should be considered tax-exempt, with 501(c)(3) tax status. The Fund may award grants to non-charities, when funds are earmarked for charitable purposes. The Fund exercises expenditure responsibility for grants to non-charities and generally does not accept unsolicited requests from non-charities. The Commonwealth Fund does not support: * Endowment or capital costs, including construction, renovation, or equipment * Basic biomedical research * Conferences, symposia, major media projects, or documentaries, unless they are a product of one of the Fund's programs * Individuals or scholarships, outside of the Fund's existing fellowship programs * Churches or other religious organizations unless the project for which they are seeking funding is entirely secular in nature.
