How to Apply
GRANT APPLICATIONS ARE REVIEWED THROUGHOUT THE YEAR AND SHOULD BE SUBMITTED THROUGH THE FOUNDATION'S GRANTEE PORTAL. THE FOUNDATION MAKES GRANTS IN FOUR CORE PROGRAM AREAS: HIGHER LEARNING; ARTS AND CULTURE; PUBLIC KNOWLEDGE; AND HUMANITIES IN PLACE. THE PRESIDENT'S OFFICE ALSO MAKES GRANTS THAT ALIGN WITH THE FOUNDATION'S STRATEGIC PRINCIPLES AND VISION. THERE IS ALSO A SMALL PROGRAM CALLED PUBLIC AFFAIRS. COLLABORATIVE PLANNING BY THE FOUNDATION AND ITS GRANTEE ORGANIZATIONS GENERALLY PRECEDES AWARDS AND IS AN INTEGRAL PART OF GRANTMAKING. WHILE MELLON DOES NOT ACCEPT UNSOLICITED PROPOSALS, WE WELCOME UNSOLICITED INQUIRIES FROM ORGANIZATIONS WHOSE WORK ALIGNS WITH OUR CURRENT STRATEGIES. ADDITIONALLY, WE OCCASIONALLY ISSUE OPEN CALLS FOR PROPOSALS.
Restrictions
THE FOUNDATION DOES NOT MAKE GRANTS TO INDIVIDUALS.
