How to Apply Proposal Process The Foundation awards programmatic grants in the area of health to 501(c)(3) organizations. The Foundation defines health broadly to include social, behavioral, and other dimensions beyond illness or disease. The grant making process is performed primarily through invited proposals or requests for proposals. The Foundation awards grants in two ways: 1. Invited Proposals - are target specific audiences and activities identified by the Foundation. Unlike request for proposals (RFPs), these proposals involve the participation of a specific entity and may represent a longer-term commitment from both the grant recipient and the Foundation. All phases of the project must be acceptable to the Foundation prior to funding, including estimated costs, timelines and expected results. 2. Request for Proposals - will be issued periodically related to specific health topics. Organizations with demonstrated capacity or evidence of strong potential to mount successful projects with res
Restrictions The Highmark Foundation makes grants to non-profit organizations throughout the areas served by Highmark Inc., and its subsidiaries and affiliates. The Highmark Foundation has focused its attention on a variety of health issues in 2021 including but not limited to: Individualized medically prescribed diets to patients with multiple chronic disease, planning grant to explore expanding Three Rivers Mother's Milk Bank into West Virginia, support for tele-medicine wound care management program, integration of primary with dental care, and school-based health efforts. In 2021, the Highmark Foundation awarded approximately $8,138,399 to 106 non-profit organizations for traditional and school grants. The Foundation issues a "Request for Proposals" (RFP) process titled "Creating a Healthy School Environment." The Request for Proposals to schools is issued annually.
