About

Purpose of project - McClure Elementary School has a 100% Free and Reduced Lunch average enrollment of 390 students. These students reside in twenty eight Section 8 Housing apartment complexes. The PK through Grade 5 school is located in the impoverished Riverwood Corridor. Both teacher recruitment and retention is most challenging. Gratitude provides gift cards and treats for teachers. Every Friday, a volunteer team ,including the Executive Director of Gratitude, delivers 120 weekend snack sacks to the "most hungry" students. Gratitude and church volunteers pack family emergency food backpacks with healthy items provided by this foundation and church. Tulsa Public School students are required to wear uniforms. Uniform shirts are provided by a local charitable organization, yet parents are expected to purchase uniform pants. Gratitude has provided pants, shoes, socks, sweatshirts and other needed clothing to help increase school attendance. As a community, we should strive to support education as a pathway to exit the cycle of poverty and dependency on both private sector and taxpayer funded social services
