I hope this message finds you well. My name is Kateryna and I am the founder and operator of a small think tank organization that we registered one year ago. We focus on research and although we are a small operation we do our best to contribute to knowledge and policy analysis. I am originally from Ukraine and I manage this think tank myself. We have a very limited budget typically raising between $3,000 and $25,000 annually. During the registration process I believe I made an error and our organization was assigned the status of a Private Foundation which does not reflect the true nature of our work. About six months ago I requested a change in status and paid the associated fee but we have not yet received an update regarding this change. I attempted to file the IRS Form 990-PF but I found it very difficult to complete as it does not apply to our operations. We do not operate as a private foundation and our assets are not in line with what is required for this form. Despite my four attempts I was unable to complete it and the IRS rejected our Form 990-eZ. As I am new to the United States I am seeking advice and guidance on how to file our tax return for the previous year as I understand the deadline has already passed. Our fiscal year ends in April and I called the IRS before where I was advised to wait and file the Form 990-eZ but I have still not received any response. I would greatly appreciate your assistance in clarifying how to proceed with our tax filing as well as any help you can offer regarding our status change. I am attaching our EIN for your reference. Thank you in advance for your time and support. I look forward to your response.
