Books Are Gems GEMS established in 2003 is a nonprofit bookstore with a 501c3 status devoted to fostering a love for reading among children and strengthening families through the power of literacy. Situated in El Paso Texas our impact extends across El Paso County Southern New Mexico and the Ft. Bliss communities. Our overarching vision centers on placing a book into the hands of every child effecting transformative change one book at a time. Our objective revolves around enhancing accessibility to books for all families thereby advancing literacy language proficiency and comprehension skills in both children and their caregivers. The context in which we operate is critical: El Pasos youth confront an illiteracy rate of around 18% and nearly a quarter of households lack access to Wi-Fi. Additionally the poverty rate for children in this region stands at 26% and the absence of public libraries in rural areas compounds the challenge.

OUR PURPOSE IS TO RESCUE AND REHABILITATE WILD MAMMALS AND BIRDS THAT ARE ORPHANED, INJURED OR ILL, AND RETURN THEM TO THE WILD.

PROVIDE FOOD, SHELTER & EDUCATION FOR ORPHANS IN JUAREZ

TO CONDUCT, OPERATE, AND MANAGE A PUBLIC ZOO OR WILD LIFE REFUGE OR OTHER AREA INTENDED FOR THE RECREATION OR EDUCATION OF THE PUBLIC IN THE EL PASO AREA.

UNITED WAY RECRUITS PEOPLE AND ORGANIZATIONS WHO BRING PASSION, EXPERTISE AND RESOURCES NEEDED TO RAISE THE MONEY TO GET THINGS DONE. WE MOBILIZE THESE COMMUNITY RESOURCES AND VOLUNTEERS TO MEET HUMAN SERVICE NEEDS. WE CONNECT PEOPLE TO SERVICES 24/7 THROUGH 2-1-1 TEXAS. THE UNITED WAY OF AMARILLO & CANYON IS AT THE FOREFRONT OF MAKING SYSTEMIC CHANGES IN THE AREAS OF EDUCATION, INCOME AND HEALTH, CREATING OPPORTUNITIES FOR A BETTER LIFE FOR ALL.

THE MACGUIRE CENTER IS ORGANIZED TO ASSIST HOMELESS YOUTH AGES 18-24 WHO HAVE TRANSITIONED FROM PUBLIC OR PRIVATE FOSTER CARE TO ACHIEVE HEALTHY LIFE SKILLS, INDEPENDENCE AND CAREER GOALS. THE ORGANIZATION'S SPECIFIC PURPOSE IS TO PROVIDE THE TARGET POPULATION WITH A SAFE AND STABLE HOUSING SOLUTION WHERE THEY MAY PURSUE HEALTHY LIFE GOALS TOWARDS INDEPENDENCE.

To provide recreational activities in a league format for children and individuals with disabilities in the community. Maintain specially designed facilities for program participants and promote awareness of the programmed activities to increase participation in the community of disability.

TO PROVIDE FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO THOSE IN NEED WHO ARE FACING EVICTION, HUNGER, THREAT OF DISCONNECTED UTILITIES OR OTHER EMERGENCIES. THIS ASSISTANCE IS TO BE PROVIDED REGARDLESS OF RACE, RELIGION OR ETHNICITY.
